Ford, Kavanaugh and a Senate hearing

Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh testifies before the Senate Judiciary Committee

The world is still reeling from Christine Blasey Ford's powerful testimony at Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing for the U.S. Supreme Court, but the Senate Judiciary Committee is moving forward with the vote on his confirmation.

"I will be voting no on Judge Kavanaugh's nomination".

The Senate Judiciary Committee asked the White House to ask the FBI to conduct the supplemental investigation, which will be "limited to current credible allegations" and must be done by October 5.

Mr Kavanaugh's friend Mark Judge, who was allegedly in the room when Christine Blasey Ford says she was sexually attacked, said he will cooperate with any FBI investigation as long as it is done confidentially.

"I believed he was going to rape me", she will say, according to her prepared testimony.

The contentious committee vote to advance the nomination to the Senate floor was secured after Jeff Flake, a key Republican senator casting the deciding vote, provided support for Kavanaugh on condition the Trump administration order an Federal Bureau of Investigation probe.

However, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said his full support of Kavanaugh was conditional on allowing a one-week FBI investigation into the sexual assault allegations the nominee has faced in recent weeks.

Democrats have maintained that all allegations should be subject to an FBI investigation, but Republicans have said a committee investigation is sufficient.

Russia says will send newer S-300 missile systems to Syria
The Kremlin initially blamed Israel, which reportedly carried out over 200 strikes on Iranian-linked targets in Syria . The Russian government announced Monday that it would be sending Syria an S-300 surface-to-air missile system .

Connecticut Democrat Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat on the Judiciary panel, said an FBI investigation "has to be more than a sham, and a charade".

Asked whether he believed McConnell should agree to delay the vote, Graham made it clear what's on the line for the Republicans, who now have a razor-thin 51-49 majority in the Senate: "The last time I looked, you need 50 votes".

Republicans can advance Kavanaugh's without any support from Democrats, but given their 51-49 seat majority in the chamber, Kavanaugh's supporters can only lose one vote and still advance his nomination.

But numerous students said they were disturbed by the way in which he had been boosted by the school, particularly in light of both the allegations against him, and some of the judge's more controversial views. They also want interviews with other accusers and witnesses in the case, some of whom have already said they want to talk with investigators. They want money. When I see it, I view it differently.

Kavanaugh, who testified separately after Ford did, said he was also 100 percent certain that the event that Ford asserted had never happened, slamming Democratic lawmakers for trying to use the allegations to ruin his name.

In their new editorial, America's editors said they were still committed to finding a justice with Kavanaugh's textualist approach to jurisprudence that is suspicious of the kind of judicial innovation that led to the Roe decision.

Once Flake's vote became public, he was cornered for several by enraged protesters in the Senate elevator in an extraordinary scene captured on live television. Last weekend, he pushed the committee to give Ford more time to decide whether to testify. Susan Collins of ME, both moderate senators who had expressed concern over the allegations against Kavanaugh.
