NBC reportedly threatened Ronan Farrow over Weinstein bombshells

NBC threatened to ruin Ronan Farrow if he didn’t stop reporting on Harvey Weinstein: report

In 2017, NBC's general counsel allegedly threatened to ruin Ronan Farrow if he didn't stop reporting on Harvey Weinstein - even though he'd already left the network.

While Farrow has publicly discussed NBC's refusal to run the story, the Daily Beast "has uncovered new details of how the process went awry, including alleged threats from NBC, back-biting inside the network about who was truly responsible, and a previously unreported ultimatum by Weinstein's attorneys".

McHugh spoke on the record with The New York Times for a story published Thursday night, shortly after The Daily Beast published an articlewith other accusations regarding NBC's decision not to run Farrow's story. But when Farrow gained possession of a tape of Weinstein talking about groping the model Ambra Battilana Gutierrez, NBC still did not embrace the story.

The former investigative unit producer described how unnamed executives specifically instructed him to cancel an interview with a woman with a rape allegation against the Hollywood mogul. "And to stand down on the story altogether". Farrow later reported on Weinstein for the New Yorker, earning a Pulitzer Prize for his work published there.

News has issued the following statement in response to the story and accusations that it tried to stifle the Harvey Weinstein story by Ronan Farrow. Weiner reminded Farrow that as he continued his reporting on behalf of a separate news organization he should no longer represent himself as working on behalf of NBC News. "NBC disagreed because, unfortunately, he did not yet have a single victim of - or witness to - misconduct by Weinstein who was willing to be identified. And we never met that threshold while Ronan was reporting for us". Besides, this wouldn't be the first time that the Powers That Be at NBC News ignored or squashed reports of abusive, powerful men.

Michael Ian Black Defends Louis C.K.'s Return. Internet Explodes
After apologizing and staying out of the spotlight for nearly a year, C.K. made a surprise appearance at the Comedy Cellar in NY . Louis C.K. performed his first stand-up set since publicly admitting to sexual harassment, the New York Times has reported .

NBC continues to deny it killed the Weinstein piece, calling the idea "an outright lie", and claiming Farrow's reporting had been deemed unfit to run on air or online at NBC when he had desired. "Will you be O.K. if I take the reporting to this magazine?'" Oppenheim said. But his initial article appeared in The New Yorker, leaving many wondering why NBC did not have it first.

According to the Daily Beast, Oppenheim is blaming his boss, NBC News Chairman Andy Lack, for making him the scapegoat.

"He was never told to stop in the way he's implying", he told The Times Thursday. The network and its executives have also been under scrutiny in the wake of sexual harassment allegations against former "Today" show co-host Matt Lauer.

Despite the network's defense, McHugh maintains that NBC mishandled the groundbreaking story. The NBC spokesperson directed HuffPost to a statement that was provided to The Daily Beast: "We immediately were clear with Weinstein's legal team that we disputed the characterizations".
