Lyon strike deal for Celtic forward Dembele

Rangers captain James Tavernier and striker Alfredo Morelos celebrate

Lyon announce the signing of Celtic and France Under-21 striker Moussa Dembele on a five-year deal for a €22m (£19.7m) fee.

The Frenchman took to social media to show how displeased he was at not being allowed to leave the Scottish champions.

With the European transfer deadline approaching, the French striker posted a graphic with the words: "A man, without his word, is nothing. A real man keeps his word".

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers claimed he had little option but to sanction Moussa Dembele's switch to Lyon in order to protect the culture that has been created at Parkhead.

Dembele sat out Thursday's Europa League win over Suduva following negotiations between Celtic and Lyon, and Rodgers admitted on Friday afternoon that it was "highly unlikely" he would be in the right frame of mind to face Rangers on Sunday.

Former POW remembers Sen. John McCain
The White House issued no formal statement over the weekend about McCain's death, though one was drafted, according to USA media. In that missive, he was brief - and his words focused on the McCain family and didn't offer praise for the senator's legacy.

"Every decision we make at Celtic will always be in the best interests of the Club and our supporters". "It has never happened".

The Celtic striker has been linked with a move to Lyon in recent days with Brendan Rodgers confirming yesterday that the club had rejected a "significant" offer. Reports in France say the Celtic boss had urged the player to leave and join Brighton in the January transfer window.

Dembele, who has scored an impressive 26 times for Celtic in 55 showings, was present for training this morning but left fifteen minutes into the session after a short chat with Rodgers. He was clearly unsettled and wanted to go.

"I am not involved in the Twitter scene but I think it is not the best way to get a move, and certainly not when you have a close relationship with someone, like I have had with Moussa, to try to then target myself or other members of the club". They had to punt him now. BBC Scotland's chief sports writer tweets.
