Liverpool boss Klopp emotional after Ings joins Southampton

Jurgen Klopp dismisses defensive worries after Liverpool beat Torino

Sky sources understand Ings has initially joined the Saints on a season-long loan with his permanent deal due to start on July 1, 2019. Liverpool are guaranteed £18 million, with a further £2 million based on appearances. Liverpool also have inserted a 20 percent sell-on clause. There will be more players on the move in the winter window but, for now, the focus is on the football.

But it seems an opportunity emerged earlier today and Southampton are now frantically trying to rush through a move to sign the 26-year-old striker.

The Liverpool striker has been frozen out at Anfield after serious injury and unlikely to get much time on the pitch if he stays at the Merseyside club for the 2018-19 campaign. Southampton, though, were Ings' first choice. It's his home, his family is there, it's his boyhood club.

Saints boss Mark Hughes believes Ings' arrival is a welcome boost for his side as they struggled for goals last term and narrowly avoided relegation.
